Heritage Committee “Storybooth” at State Fair

August 23, 2011 by admin

The Appalachian Foods Storybank project, led by the Heritage Foods Committee of Slow Food Asheville will have a “Storybooth” at the Mountain State Fair this year.  We are seeking any and all volunteers interested in regional foods or Appalachian history to aid the “Storybooth” this September.

Come collect regional food stories while learning how to record oral histories with the Appalachian Foods Storybank (AFS)!  Our booth will be located within the Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project (ASAP) booth in an air-conditioned facility at the WNC Agricultural Center during the Fair.

We are seeking volunteers to staff our booth for one or more 3- to 4-hour shifts, September 9-18, while the fair is open to the public.  A volunteer shift will include fair admission for that day.  There will be a brief training session required before the fair begins, which will be tentatively held on Wednesday, Sept. 7th, 2011.

If you are interested in volunteering with AFS or have any other questions, please respond to Ashley.Gillett@gmail.com.  Please also feel free to pass this invitation on to any interested parties.
