Appalachian Food Storybank (AFS) invites you to attend an Oral History Training

March 3, 2014 by bobbowles

Appalachian Food Storybank (AFS) invites you to attend an Oral History Training on Sunday, March 30th, 1pm-5pm at the NC Department of Cultural Resources facility, 176 Riceville Road in Asheville.

The Oral History Training is open to the public and is geared toward anyone interested in oral history and the art of interviewing. Attendees will gain basic interview skills, equipment management techniques, a greater understanding of oral history, and experience through small group practice. You will also learn the importance of consent forms and how to draft an effective document. Additional techniques for interviewing and establishing rapport will be addressed with valuable insight from experienced AFS interviewers.

Appalachian Food Storybank is an oral history project designed to help folks record their stories of mountain food traditions. AFS is a program of Slow Food Asheville, started in 2011. Interview excerpts and samples can be accessed at www.appalachianfoodstorybank.org. Space is limited for the Training, so attendees need to register using this online form. Fee for the event is $20 – $50, sliding scale. For more information, contact susannah.gebhart@gmail.com.
