Our heirloom tomato tasting was a success!

Thank you to everyone who came out to join us in tasting a variety of locally grown heirloom tomatoes. On August 27th, Slow Food Asheville hosted a tomato tasting event at the Wedge at Foundation, which is Wedge Brewing’s new location in the River Arts District. It was a lovely day for a casual outdoor gathering.

We held a vote for BEST FLAVOR among heirloom varieties present. The winning tomato was the Pineapple tomato, followed closely by the Cherokee Purple tomato. Chris Smith on our board of directors also educated folks on how to save tomato seeds, by conducting a few demonstrations at the picnic table. We had some delicious prepared dishes to snack on as well, from a caprese salad to tomato-peach salsa with corn chips to classic tomato & mayo sandwiches on locally baked bread.

Come to our next event Asheville Seed Swap on October 17th, 4pm – 7pm at the Stephens-Lee Recreation Center in downtown Asheville!
